The master artist I decided to use for this piece was Leonardo Da Vinci. His study page of the child in the womb was a great reference for this piece and I tried to utilize his use of simplistic values in his page as well as the shapes he used to draw the child. The current artist that I chose is Chatham-Kent. The photo is actually photography from her company that basically aid families with having and preparing for a child. I used her photo as a reference to learn how to draw a pregnant woman and how to draw her sitting crisscross. This piece strongly coincides with my inquiry question because the piece is meant to show a woman that is pregnant with a child that she is connected to with a noose. This piece is a statement about the abortion rights that are being taken away and can lead to the deaths of both the woman and the child. The materials that I decide to use were blue and white acrylic paints on an 8” by “6 canvas board. I decide to utilize the range of emotions that the color blue can draw out by using a variety of dark shades to light shades to not only add deph to the piece but to convey her sorrow and highlight the noose anong the other shades. The process for this piece was not a normal one for me because I actually got us in the middle of the night to sketch out the concept when it had popped into my head and from there I proceded to make a digital version of it in monochrome grayscale. I knew when had finished the digital piece that there were things that I could do better and change so I decided to try it again but this time I decided to use a media which I don’t use much and that is acrylic. From there I did a little more research and tried it with the acrylic. This piece is something I am passionate about, pro choice, however while I have show this piece to my mom like many of my other pieces, I have yet to show it to my father for fear of how he will react because in this context he can be old fashioned.
